Game 7: #18 TCU at #15 Clemson
December 17, 2011
Kickoff: 2:30 pm
Location: Clemson, South Carolina
Weather: 60 degrees, light showers, 5 mph wind
EA Sports Ratings: Clemson, Overall: B+, Offense: B+, Defense: B+
TCU, Overall: A-, Offense: A, Defense: B+
Clemson started off the season hot, cooled somewhat, and then finished off right winning the ACC Championship. Led behind the play of true freshman WR Sammy Watkins; the Clemson offense seemed to find another gear this year. TCU started slow out of the gate this season dropping two early non-conference contests to Baylor and SMU. As the year progressed the Horned Frogs seemed to find their stride and was able to break the nation’s longest home winning streak at Boise St. This game would be played in the rain, so we’ll see how that effects both squads.
1st Quarter:
-Both offenses start of slow, only TCU is able to get on the board in the 1st qtr
with a 33 yard FG from Ross Evans. (3-0 TCU)
2nd Quarter:
-The field goal battle continues as Clemson gets on the board with a 29 yard FG
from Chandler Catanzaro. (3-3 Tied)
-After trading punts back and forth, struggling in the weather, TCU hits pay dirt
with a 4 yard TD pass from Casey Pachall to Skye Dawson. (10-3 TCU)
3rd Quarter:
-Clemson’s offense finally is able to hit stride on their first possession of the
2nd half and a 53 yard TD pass from Tajh Boyd to Sammy Watkins. (10-10 Tied)
-After the defenses regain control, TCU scores the final points of the 3rd qtr
with a 1 yard TD run from Casey Pachall. (17-10 TCU)
4th Quarter:
-Clemson strikes first to start the 4th qtr with a 4 yard TD pass from Tajh Boyd
to Dwayne Allen. (17-17 Tied)
-TCU is able to answer a couple series later with a 43 yard TD pass from
Casey Pachall to Skye Dawson. (24-17 TCU)
-Clemson quickly moves back down the field and scores with a 34 yard FG
from Chandler Catanzaro with 9:04 to go in the ball game. (24-20 TCU)
