If you missed the introduction post about the Playoff, no problem! Read it here: http://short-sideoption.blogspot.com/2012/02/ok-cowboy-cardinal-and-duck-fans-this.html

One side of the bracket has already been decided; the other will be decided shortly.  First, here are the reality bites:

Atleast 11 schools are interested in joining the CUSA-MWC merger reports CBS’s Brett McMurphy; they are:  Louisiana Tech, New Mexico St, San Jose St, Texas St, UTSA, Utah St, FAU, FIU, North Texas, and Charlotte (who is looking to make the jump to FBS).  Read more here:  http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/blog/brett-mcmurphy/17751380/wac-schools-others-interested-in-new-c-usamwc-league

A judge ruled against Oklahoma State University yesterday in their attempt to regain $33 Million spent on a fund raiser based on the idea of providing $10 Million life insurance policies for about two dozen donors IF they listed the university as the beneficiary.  An email retrieved from Oklahoma St Athletic Director Mike Holder reads that the deal was rushed and details were missed because if the deal wasn’t done as soon as Super Donor Boone Pickens wanted, he would be ‘in a cave with Bin Laden’.  Read more here:  http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story/_/id/7678962/oklahoma-state-cowboys-lose-bid-regain-33m-fundraiser

The single largest donation ever in Baylor history has resulted in the plans for an on-campus stadium to begin.  If all goes as planned the new stadium will open at Baylor in time for the 2014 season, read more here:  http://www.kwtx.com/news/headlines/Baylor_To_Announce_Lead_Gift_For_New_On-Campus_Stadium_142489485.html?ref=485

The Big 12 is on the verge of finishing their TV contract with ESPN and Fox that will run through 2025, the new contract will put the average payout per team in the Big 12 at around $20 million.  The Pac 12’s new TV deal was finalized last year at $21 Million per school; while the ACC’s contract earlier this year garnered them $16 million per school, the Big East receives $8 million per school as of this year’s new contract, the SEC renews their contract in 2018 and they make roughly $17 Million per school, and the Big Ten renews their contract in 2016 and they make $22 Million per school.  Read more here:  http://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/Special-Content/News/2012/Big-12-ESPN.aspx

Now on with the playoff…..

Game 22:  #4 Stanford vs #1 LSU

January 7, 2012
Kickoff:  7:30 pm
Location: Miami, FL
Weather: 61 degrees, clear, 14 mph wind

EA Sports Ratings:        Stanford, Overall: A, Offense: A+, Defense: B+
                                        LSU, Overall: A, Offense: B+, Defense: A

This would be a very physical football game to watch.  Stanford’s motto the past few years has been ‘win with character and cruelty’ and their grinding style of play lives up to the bill.  Not only is Stanford’s style of play tough to deal with; they have one of the best college quarterbacks (maybe since Peyton Manning) to get behind center.  LSU on the other hand relies on a fierce, fast defense that forces the opposing offense into mistakes.  They are big, fast, and mean.  The winner of this game will take on Alabama at the National Championship game in the Rose Bowl.

1st Quarter:
-Stanford opens the game with a nice drive resulting in a  14 yard play action
pass for a TD from Andrew Luck to Ty Montgomery.                                                      (7-0 Stan)

-On LSU’s first drive, Jordan Jefferson is intercepted resulting in a 5 yard TD run
             by Stepfan Taylor.                                                                                                               (14-0 Stan)

2nd Quarter:
-LSU gets on the board early in the 2nd qtr with a 46 yard FG by Drew Alleman.             (14-3 Stan)

-Stanford responds with a 21 yard FG from Eric Whitaker.                                              (17-3 Stan)

-LSU scores the last points in the first half with a 20 yard TD pass from
Jordan Jefferson to Rueben Randle.                                                                                (17-10 Stan)

3rd Quarter:
-The defenses control the 3rd qtr until Michael Ford breaks a 61 yard TD run for LSU.            (17-17 Tied)

4th Quarter:
-Stanford responds early in the 4th qtr with an 8 yard TD pass from Andrew Luck to
             Griff Whalen.                                                                                                                      (24-17 Stan)

-LSU comes right back down the field and scores with an 11 yard TD pass from
Jordan Jefferson to Rueben Randle.                                                                               (24-24 Tied)

-Stanford takes the ball and methodically moves it down the field then scores with
a 1 yard TD pass from Andrew Luck to Coby Fleener.                                                   (31-24 Stan)

-LSU drives back down the field but is intercepted in the end zone ending the game.         (31-24 Stan)
