If you missed the introduction post about the Playoff, no problem! Read it here: http://short-sideoption.blogspot.com/2012/02/ok-cowboy-cardinal-and-duck-fans-this.html

The 12th game in the virtual College Football Playoff is coming up, but here are the reality bites from this weekend:

Pac 12 Commissioner Larry Scott talks with Pete Thamel of the NY Times about the BCS meetings that occurred last week.  Scott sounds like he is in favor of only Conference Champions being allowed in a playoff and also in favor of higher seeds hosting games until the Championship.  Read more here:  http://www.nytimes.com/2012/02/26/sports/ncaafootball/considering-a-playoff-format-that-would-scrap-the-bcs.html?_r=2&ref=sports

The NCAA announced on Friday that the Oregon Ducks did violate NCAA rules with their dealings with Willie Lyles’ recruiting service.  Read more here:  http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/7613030/ncaa-documents-say-oregon-ducks-violated-recruiting-regulations

The SEC is having some trouble with agreeing on how to structure a 14 team conference schedule without losing historic rivalries, read more here:  ). http://timesfreepress.com/news/2012/feb/26/ut-bama-georgia-auburn-series-at-risk/

Now on with the playoff!

Game 12:  #14 Oklahoma at #6 Arkansas

December 24, 2011
Kickoff:  6:00 pm
Location: Fayetteville, Arkansas
Weather: 47 degrees, cloudy, 1 mph wind

EA Sports Ratings:        Arkansas, Overall: A, Offense: A, Defense: B+
                                       Oklahoma, Overall: A+, Offense: A+, Defense: A

These two campuses are closer together than most of their own conference foes; yet they seldom play.  This is one of those regional matchups that would be great to see in a playoff setting.  Oklahoma and Arkansas both lost offensive weapons throughout the season, but each should still have enough fire power to have made this a shootout.

1st Quarter:
-Arkansas takes the opening drive and scores with a 6 yard TD pass from
Tyler Wilson to Jarius Wright.                                                                            (7-0 Ark)

-Arkansas recovers a Roy Finch fumble and capitalizes with a 75 yard TD
Pass from Tyler Wilson to Greg Childs.                                                             (14-0 Ark)

2nd Quarter:
-The Sooner offense responds immediately in the 2nd qtr with a 13 yard TD
Pass from Landry Jones to Trey Franks.                                                           (14-7 Ark)

-After trading punts, Arkansas gets back into FG range and scores with a
36 yard FG from Zach Hocker.                                                                            (17-7 Ark)

-Oklahoma recovers a Tyler Wilson fumble and is able to march down the
field and score with an 18 yard TD pass from Landry Jones to Kenny Stills.      (17-14 Ark)

-The Oklahoma defense again responds just before halftime with a Tyler
Wilson interception resulting in a 28 yard FG from Jimmy Stevens.                       (17-17 Tied)

3rd Quarter:
-Oklahoma takes the opening drive of the second half and scores with a
18 yard TD pass from Landry Jones to Kameel Jackson.                                    (24-17 OU)

-Both offenses take a breather until Arkansas scores with an 8 yard TD pass
from Tyler Wilson to Jarius Wright.  The XP sails wide right however.                  (24-23 OU)

4th Quarter:
-The defenses continue to control the game in the 4th qtr until the Hogs turn
a Landry Jones fumble into a 44 yard TD pass from Tyler Wilson to Cobi Hamilton.
The 2 pt conversion is good when Tyler Wilson scrambles into the endzone.       (31-24 Ark)

-Oklahoma drives back down the field and scores with :02 remaining
with a 5 yard TD pass from Landry Jones to Roy Finch.                                       (31-31 Tied)

Overtime:

-Oklahoma wins the coin toss and takes defense.  Arkansas takes the first
possession in overtime scores with a 5 yard TD pass from Tyler Wilson to
             Cobi Hamilton.                                                                                                          (38-31 Ark)

-Oklahoma responds on its possession with a 7 yard TD run from Roy Finch.
The extra point is blocked by Jake Beqquette.                                                       (38-37 Ark)
